Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

I really dislike New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. I have since I was little. To me, New Year's is just another day and I never understood why everyone around me went absolutely ga-ga over it. Why spend the money on a huge bash and endless over-priced drinks? I mean, if that's your preference, then go right ahead, but I just don't get it. Whatever "it" is.

Ann Miller wishes you all a happy new year! Hurrah!
So, here's what I do to "celebrate" just another day (New Year's Eve to be exact):

I'm usually dragged to my sister and brother-in-law's house, kicking and screaming, by my parents, for dinner. As soon as we've cleaned up the kitchen, and everyone else is distracted by full stomachs and wistful dreams of the future, I escape and head back home by myself. I shower, put on my Christmas pajamas, climb into bed and watch a full night's worth of classic movies until I fall asleep paying absolutely no heed to the new year's arrival.

What's that? It's midnight? *hmph* Shhhh! I'm trying to watch The Thin Man! Shame on you for interrupting!

I tend to watch films that make me feel good and all warm n' fuzzy on New Year's Eve. These are films that make me laugh out loud and snort through my nose. They are also films that comfort me and make me feel loved (yes, it's possible). Here are a few of my NYE favourites:

  • The Thin Man (obviously)
  • After The Thin Man (again, obviously)
  • Ball Of Fire
  • Meet Me In St. Louis

This year I'll also be tuned into the Fawlty Towers marathon that'll be airing on one of our local channels beginning at 9 PM (Vision TV, for those of you who live in Ontario, Canada). No, Fawlty Towers is not a classic film, but it certainly is classic British television at its finest! I grew up watching (and enjoying) British comedies but that's an entirely different blog all together ;)

Please let me know what you'll all be up to tonight and tomorrow -- do you have any NYE traditions?

  2. Oh, Ball of Fire is a great pic...tons of laughs there. TCM is playing The Apartment tonight at 10pm eastern...not sure if that's on the Canadian schedule or not. Maybe not 'snort'-worthy though. :)

  3. Around midnight I always like to turn on the TV and watch the giant ball drop in New York. I'm not sure if they show that in Canada.
